Dr. Xiao is Professor of Pathology at the University of Chicago.  He is specialized in gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary pathology. His professional experiences include a Fogarty fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Senior Research Associate with National Research Council (NRC), Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch and at Weill Cornell Medical College, visiting Professor and Funding Director of Pathology at Wuhan University (2017-21), and President of Hubei Pathology Society (2017-22), among others. In recent years, Dr. Xiao has devoted significant effort in helping pathologists and GI doctors in China to improve diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and related malignancies.

Dr. Xiao has published more than 190 peer-reviewed papers and 8 book chapters and authored 5 books. His Google Scholar citation is 12500 (H-index 57, i10-index 150).  Other honors include Best Doctors in America (2007, 2019), 2020 Illinois Magazine Top Doctors Pathologist.
